Christmas tree decorating has got to be my favourite! I got so many messages asking me about my Christmas tree, so here are ALL the details! This was mine and Arin’s first Christmas tree together, so I wanted it to be extra special, considering how all of 2020 went (am I right?!). It took us 2 full days to finish everything, but separating the branches, by far, take the longest. We made a fun two days out of it…it included lots of yummy Nespresso Hazelnut Muffin coffee, Christmas music, & some trial and error.
THEME // Deciding a theme is the hardest part. I used my West Elm pillowcase as inspo and decided to go with those colors and am obsessed with how gorgeous everything came out together. My exact one is sold out, but I linked a few favorites I’ve had my eye on that are all on sale! (All links will be at the bottom of this post)
UPSIDE DOWN CHRISTMAS TREE // Got so many messages asking me about my exact tree…it’s unfortunately sold out, but here are a few I found for you guys & their all on sale. I like the ones that are wider on top, that way your ornaments hang more on the sides. As you can see, we had it on the wrong way at first in this pic! Ours is an artificial tree with no lighting and 7’5″ tall. Make sure you spend a good amount of time separating the branches!

RIBBON // Ribbon is something you want to splurge on a little.. aim for something with texture (consider velvety, shiny, or patterns). It helps add contrast next to your other ornaments. Also try to get ribbon that is 4″ wide or larger, for it to really give a luxurious effect. I purchased mine from a local Christmas Decor store for about $75. Investing in good ribbon will last you years and the wires stay put better since it’s thicker. I was automatically drawn to this chevron patterned ribbon & loved how it shined when light hit it!
First, you want to add your Christmas lights. I tried a new way where instead of going in circles, we went in vertical patterns (apparently it’s easier to remove) – I’ll definitely let you know once it’s time to take them off. Next, place your ribbon on however you’d like. I ended up cutting mine in strips of 2 feet and placed them in a diagonal pattern coming down.
BEADED GARLAND // I fell in love with this gold beaded garland. You can use this on your tree or above a fireplace or the entrance to your doorway. I placed it diagonally coming down, after the ribbon, & LOVED how it turned out. This was a purchase from the same local Christmas shop and cost about $95.
ORNAMENTS // Next, you want to place all of your larger ornaments first, then fill the rest of the tree with your smaller ones. I LOVE having a few huge ornaments of different colors and textures. This was another buy from a local store, each was around $18.

THROW // Instead of adding a tree skirt, I decided to go with an off-white sherpa throw around the bottom of the tree. I added some faux fur pillows behind it to make that area all cozy and warm! All that’s missing so far are the presents (waiting for the to arrive currently).

COFFEE TABLE DECOR // I put my favorite Christmas candle in a ceramic bowl I already had and threw in some of my favorite ornaments all around it. Love how it all came out!
HANGING BRANCHES & ORNAMENTS // I think the prettiest part about upside down Christmas trees are all of the hanging ornaments. I opted for lots of clear icicles and crystals, which look so gorgeous when they catch the lights at night. I also got some greyish blue hanging branches that I placed more towards the top of the tree (these run around $25 each). Arin’s Lakers Championship ornament made it to the front of the tree too haha!
